Aliprand & The Vollan Family
Aliprand is a popular Dilládudu (distilled spirit – literally
brain cough) drunk all year round. Produced by the Vollan Distillery, it is made
from distilled crowberry and barley, giving it a fruity, warm taste.
The Vollan Family have been distilling crowberries on the
island since they became the Royal Distilleries in the 17th century.
At this time, around the 1680’s, Whitmount was at the height of its power, both
in trade and in intrigue, but had a burgeoning tourism industry. Whilst the
rest of the world were experiencing the Grand Tour culture of Italy and The
French, Whitmount was still on the backfoot in terms of popular exports.
That’s when a government faction, led by the kings consort Queen
Fredirika of Toulouse, asked the three most popular practitioners of native
Whitmountian tradition (Yiyåxithut, Titáxiduth and Dilládudu making) to become
royal patrons, and so the tourist industry was born.
