The Conversion of Renata Sikora
The Conversion of Renata Sikora is an apocryphal story about the miracles of Blessed Krzysztof of Výšnja, the founder of Agapism.
In the story, set down by one of Krzysztof's followers, Julek of Alytus, Renata Sikora was the daughter of Bronislav, a local tribal leader in Trakai who had refused to marry anyone who loved her more than God unless that person is God, thus implying that she would only marry Jesus incarnate. This caused mass panic both for the local lords, who were expecting an heir to the throne, and to the populace, who feared a civil war if and when Renata died.
On his travels, Krzysztof met a young man called Erikas Jonaitis, son of Vygantas II, another local lord. He had been shunned by Renata many times, and was said to be a beauty. When asked why he had been shunned, many locals attested that Renata did love him, but because he was not of the body of the Lord, she could not take him.
Krzysztof, leading Erikas by the hand, went to the court of Bronislav, to confront Renata. Below is a translation of the story by Adomas V. Adomaitis in 1900;
Krzysztof, who's wear was not of the court, was initially not welcomed by the Princess.
"Take him away from me", she cried, "He is of heathens, and not of God!"
Krzysztof pointed at the boy that he had in his hand and said, "Is this boy not of God? He believes the same as you yet your scorn him. He was created by the same hands, and yet you scorn him. Is this the love that you expect from the Jesus that you are expecting? Why should you, a Princess by no fault of your own, only owning to your birth, say that you have authority in league with God to decide who his son is? And in that vein, why is God's son one person? Why have you hampered your love for your fellows by disguising it with purity and grace? This man, whom you clearly love, is not loved enough by God for you, and yet, he is one of God's creations; a being, singular in time and space, whom God has given time to nurture and to prosper. Is he not, as I have seen, a son of God?"
Awaiting his answer, Krzysztof bent to the floor and kissed it in reverence. Renata did the same.
"I see now, old man, that my ways were primitive" she said "I see now that all of my fellows are men of God, and yes, I do love this man, and will marry him. But first, I ask your permission to wash my sins."
Taking a cup of rain water, Krzysztof blessed it with love, drank from it and then poured it over Renata's feet.
"Now where you walk", he uttered "The love of God will be with you."
The paining above, by Utkin, shows the kneeling Krzysztof, offering his love to the newly baptized Renata.
