The Bobbly Gardens
The Gardens of the Royal Palace, often nicknamed The Bobbly
Gardens, is one of 7 national parks on the isle of Whitmount. Although not the
oldest (that award goes to Mt. Duxiy) and certainly not the largest (that goes
to the Ngethång plains), it is perhaps the most decedent, and certainly the
most bizarre. Originally built as a botanical garden by the consort to Eric
III, Queen Fredirika of Toulouse, it was designed by acclaimed Dutch botanist Michel
Matthias Albinson in 1681. The original design (shown in the picture above), was built
over during the next few decades, as many various consorts wanted different
things from the garden. The garden today is a breathing history of the island, chronicling
the different regimes of the land, from the decadence of the Atte dynasty, to
the practicality of the post revolutionary state.
